A Good Hotel Never Has a Bad Gym
I’ve never seen it. I’ve been to plenty of bad hotels that have shitty gyms but never the other way around, I could stand to be corrected but as of now thats the way the cookie protein bar crumbles . Anyway, we already established in previous posts I travel a good amount for work. I’m not sure if it’s just me but as I go thorough making all of my arrangements I seem to notice that the majority of my time is spent scanning hotel websites for a glimpse of their gyms. I’ll give you a little secret from my journeys – If you can’t find any pictures of it on their site…..It sucks. If they have something worth showing off, they do it -plain and simple . Even the average to good setups don’t offer much more than a 15 x 15 sq. ft. space with a treadmill, elliptical and 5lb-50lb dumbbells. Although it may not look like a lot, you can get a hell of a lot accomplished with this setup, the problems arise when you have to start jockeying for position with your fellow hotel fitness enthusiasts. I always have a few body weight circuits ready to go (Here’s One of our favorite). When I was recently out in San Jose for a week, the gym was packed by 5:30am making it nearly impossible to get anything meaningful done. Simple fix, no equipment needed, just space. I took a yoga mat and went poolside (a little early for tequila) and crushed 30 minutes under the California stars (recommended even if the gym is empty). Stop wasting time looking for excuses not to do something, just do it(I feel like that phrase has been used before).
Switching gears, for our functional fitness/ CrossFit crowd, I stumbled across an interesting new hotel chain called Tru. Its Hilton’s attempt to capture the money hearts of traveling millennial’s. This was equipped with – free weights, TRX cables, resistance bands, yoga balls, kettle bells, stability balls, Plyo boxes and foam rollers – definitely outside the norm.
That being said the room was a little small but who cares about the rooms. Also, don’t fall into the universal breakfast trap while traveling .
P.S – Vegas Casino hotel gyms are legit, if you haven’t been- book a trip now.
