Fitness, Nutrition and Fashion…Wait What?
Remember when people had two sets of cloths, you know – for when its warm and for when its cold. Life was simple, for those in-between months you’d just take a guess and live a little. Then some real sharp tools in the shed thought: “Hey, we need cloths for all four seasons . Lets make some checkered shirts(that provide the allusion of warmth) for the fall and a bright promising shirt/pants one-piece contraption for spring”. They sprinkle in a little smart advertising with influencers and BAMM! We NEED flannels and corduroys. Now, there are “fashion” guidelines down to the month with new looks being brought to the consumers attention constantly. I mean we’ve all seen The Devil wears Prada(because who hasn’t), Anne and young Vinny Chase didn’t have a chance, that shit is real.
Well, if ya think about it the fitness and food industry seems to have followed suit. Workout trends are popping up on a weekly basis. Back in the 70’s we had Arnold and the boys lifting things up while Richard Simmons was allowed to leave his house and tell the world “Yes You Can”!
Personal training and focused classes began to emerge in the 90’s before dance and functional fitness became mainstream in the early 2000’s. Since then, we’ve seen Crossfit, HIIT and specialty “Boutique”classes (in just about anything) taking the fitness world by storm. All these methods to workout and somehow the highest obesity rates in history…must be another direct effect of global warming.
Anyway, taking our attention to nutrition, new studies are boosting another life saving plant or herb(see what I did there) every week. It’s hard to keep up with all the” If’s” , “Coulds” and “May’s” in headlines advising folks to eat X and do Y(you just witnessed some next level nutrition algebra) . We’re coming close to “trend of the week” territory and that’s troubling. Consumers may be deploying this inconclusive advise to alter their lifestyle on the results of one study with a small sample size and no peer review.
Its like getting all your health information from a blogger who has no medical certifications or education, and just does it to make people enjoy consuming health news (totally hypothetical).
With all the skeptical information that’s throw out into public consumption everyday its truly important to read the full articles and not just the headlines. A lot of the times you’ll see that the trials were successful, just not on humans, instead on our cheese loving counterparts. That’s the very reason all these articles have the words “possibly”, “could” and “may”. It’s just a reality in today’s validation process, so take what you read with a grain of salt (just a grain, this isn’t permission to douse your food in salt every time your reading) and if your intrigued to experiment with a supplement proposed in one of these articles do your DAMM research first. The good news is, in generality, eating any plant (in recommended doses) will aid health and is a much better option then your usually processes snack coming out of a plastic bag or box.
Just like fashion – What seems crazy at first, becomes adapted and suddenly its in style, then its played out….Next!
