Most Doctors aren’t comfortable Prescribing Weed……And Pretty Much Anything Natural
EH– Marijuana is now legal — at least for medical purposes — in more than half the states in the country, the researchers said. Curriculum deans at 101 medical schools completed surveys about marijuana education. Just over two-thirds said their graduates weren’t prepared to prescribe medical marijuana. One-quarter said their graduates weren’t even able to answer questions about medical marijuana. The researchers also surveyed 258 medical residents and fellows from across the country. Nine out of 10 said they were unprepared to prescribe medical marijuana. Eighty-five percent said they hadn’t received any education about medical marijuana.
Pretty crazy that 9 out of 10 doctors cant talk to the proven beneficial affects of a plant. What about nutritional advice you ask? ” On average, U.S. medical schools offer only 19.6 hours of nutrition education across four years of medical school” and “It turns out that only 29 percent of U.S. medical schools offer med students the recommended 25 hours of nutrition education, according to a 2015 report in the Journal of Biomedical Education”; Well, that’s promising. If your looking for advice on natural prescriptions, your best bet may be consulting my colleague Doggie Fresh (the fine wine expert of cannabinoids).
This report comes down to basic human nature, a doctors job is to diagnose a patient and help them return to health. This is usually done by prescribing a medication and advising the patient to follow-up if the symptoms continue. Gone are the days that a regular general care physician spends a significant amount of time with patients, most visits typically consist of under 15 minutes of patient-to-doctor face time. Not really enough time to diagnose whether a patient has a bacterial or viral condition, so to make sure all bases are covered they prescribes a generic antibiotic that will kill all bacteria (good and bad) and open up the possibility of side affects. If its viral, the antibiotic will have no impact in aiding your recovery and your immune system will be left fighting it off, typically over a span of a few days to a week (thus showing why there is no cure for the common cold). Doctors daily schedules are packed, barely having time for lunch, its an unfortunate reality of the healthcare landscape today. They are trained and educated in prescription based medicine, rarely (if ever) do you see a doctor prescribe natural remedies (like a walk in the park). So in what logical world would we expect them to be cool with prescribing a joint or an edible over a nifty piece of paper with an Rx on it. Its just not today’s reality, like I said earlier Doggie Fresh can sit with you for days and describe how to artificially inseminate a plant with some chap stick and a ping pong ball (even though you guys would probably enter a YouTube vortex about an hour in with the possibility of never returning to reality).
