When it comes to taking “Years off our Life” the classic contenders everybody loves to talk about are smoking, drinking, junk food and recreational drugs. And listen, you gotta give credit where credit is due, because those four things, especially when combine, have the power to synthesize the cellular dysfunction which accelerates disease.
However, these four juggernauts may be playing T-Ball when it comes to REAL immediate impact. Because many of their effects typically take years to develop and cultivate into real problems. Which is exactly why the Dallas Bed Rest Study was so eye opening.
Here researchers in 1966 subjected five 20-year old college students to 3-weeks of complete bed rest. Looking to see what happened to their cardio-respiratory fitness and heart health as a result. Finding that the bed-rest significantly decreased their Vo2 max and cardiac flexibility.
The “Eye Opening” part being, the fact that they tracked-down these same five individuals 30-years later to take another look at their hearts. And what they found made quite the case for a new #1 Contender when it comes to said “Years” off our lives…
Let’s take a look…
