What to Expect During a Prolonged Fast

That is, once or twice before the jig was up, she figured me out, and I was from then on politely instructed to “Live off my Fat”!
It wasn’t until about 20 years, and a few dozen scientific studies later, that I realized this “Living off your Fat” isn’t such a bad idea. At least for a short duration of time.
So after a few trials of shorter duration Fasts (24-60 hours) and the implementation of a daily 18-6 Intermittent fasting protocol (Eat for Six hours, Fast for 18 hours), I embarked on this 168+ Hour Journey to the land of no food and bubbly Topo Chicos Sparkling water.
The End goal was to reap all the physiological and psychological benefits outlined HERE (Recommended Pre-Read) in one of my previous fasting breakdowns. While you’re at it, I’d suggest taking a look at THIS for a nice little walk down understanding True Hunger.
During this 7-Day period I recorded the following:
- Weight (Lbs)
- Blood Glucose ( in mg/dL at least twice a day)
- Ketones (in mmol/L, at least twice a day)
- Sleep (Oura Ring Statistics)
And obviously documented my physical and mental states over the course of the week as well!
Let me know in the comments below what you’re fasting protocol is!
Enjoy!
Some Additional Notes include:
- Hunger sensations diminished after about 36 hours
- Sleep efficiency and quality improved
- I Exercised every morning
- Definitely felt cold (didn’t help that NYC was freezing)
- Took one multi-vitamin on Day 3
- Shoulder and toe injuries improved (my assumption is due to the lighter exercise as well as the fast)
- 2x Bowel movements (and none for the last 5 days)
PLEASE NOTE: Everybody’s different! Physically, Psychologically, Emotionally. There is no perfect protocol when it comes to eating, and if there was it would never be agreed on. It’s super important to always listen to your body and consult with your doctor before making any major changes to your diet or eating habits. This post is purely informational, I have no knowledge of your unique health situations, so always talk to your doctor first!
