Zip Code vs. Genetic Code | What’s More Important?
It might be news to you, but where you live actually has a pretty relevant correlation with your health. That is, of course, until you realize this fact and start owning said health! Let me explain…
Studies have trickled out over the last few decades highlighting that an individuals “zip code” may be a bigger determinate of their health outcomes than their genetic code. Quite the claim, I know.
But when further explored, it became clear that the distinct attributes of an area, like its walkability, pollution levels, infrastructure health and even fast food footprint, in other words “Environment”, may be having a bigger impact on biological function than previously suspected. Making even MORE sense when we discovered that our environment and lifestyle modulates the expression of many genes.
Ok, so does ALL THIS mean our health trajectory is pre-determined? And we should all just do ourselves a favor and accept our fate?
