Find your Workout Zen – That body high
It only took about 15 years but I got there, and hopefully it’s a place I can stay a while. By challenging myself with a combo of HIIT(High Intensity Interval Training) and stretching I’ve found a formula(for now) that release those feel good chemicals throughout my body. The aftermath, you reach a state of very conscious meditation that takes over then delivers a body high that almost sweeps you off your feet (I’m hoping it just isn’t the blood rushing to my head……if it is I’ll take it). I break my method into two distinct actions that get me to my workout Zen (and before you ask, yes – there are many different ways and combos to reach this state).
First, I pick a circuit that will challenge me to the extent that majority of my focus (Brain CPU’s) are being utilized to accomplish the physical tasks. When I’ve hit a stride in a circuit the only thing that going through my mind is numbers (counting reps), deep concentration is a rare but important occurrence in today’s social world. I’m at close to 100% mind utilization one once specific task, basically working to had to allow my mind to wander. This brings you to a state of very conscious meditation that blocks out everything else in the world.
Right at the conclusion of this 30 minute(or so) intense focused session I transition into 10-15 minutes of stretching and breathing. Your body’s churning at all cylinders and now its time to shift that CPU power by extending your body and letting the energy flow. For me, this transition induces a NATURAL body high. Breathing and extending through different dynamic and stationary stretches literally create sensations that flow from head to toes (again hoping it’s not all the blood rushing to my head). Just following a yoga/breathing routine can also get you here without the HIIT circuit pre-qualifier. Everyone’s at different fitness levels, make sure you understand your body and don’t exceed you limits.
That my friends is my workout Zen and how I start the majority of my days, it took 15 years (the majority being in competitive athletics) to get to such a simple solution. Take a leap, try something new. Find your Zen
